NBR extends the income tax return submission deadline, giving individuals and businesses more time to file without penalties
Good news for taxpayers! The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has once again extended the deadline for filing individual income tax returns—this time until February 16, 2025.
Previously, the deadline was set for January 31, 2025, but in response to requests from taxpayers and various professional organizations, the NBR has granted more time for submission without any penalties. This means individuals can now file their tax returns without facing late fees or fines.
For corporate taxpayers, the deadline has also been pushed back. Instead of the earlier February 15 deadline, businesses now have time until March 16, 2025, to file their returns.
Why the Extension?
The decision to extend the deadline was made considering the challenges faced by taxpayers, including technical difficulties, workload pressures, and the need for more time to gather necessary documents. The extension aims to encourage compliance and reduce last-minute stress for individuals and businesses alike.
Who Must File Online?
While taxpayers across the country can submit their returns in person or online, NBR has made online tax return submission mandatory for specific groups. These include:
Government employees working in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Gazipur, and Narayanganj City Corporations
Employees of scheduled banks across Bangladesh
Employees of mobile telecom service providers
Staff of certain multinational companies
If you belong to any of these groups, you must file your return online rather than submitting it manually.
Take Advantage of the Extra Time!
With the new deadline, taxpayers now have more breathing room to file their returns accurately. If you haven’t completed yours yet, this is your chance to do so without any penalties.
